Kent Taylor Obituary

Kent W. Taylor Kent was born on October 6, 1940 to Harriet and John Taylor. As a child, Kent loved to spend time at his grandfather's business listening to his stories and running errands. Kent grew up playing baseball and became a talented baseball pitcher who set many records. He did so well that he was scouted and offered contracts by the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles but decided to attend college like his parents wished. Soon after, he married Margaret, started a family and made a 40 year career in the steel industry.

He is survived by his children: Andrea (Roger) Jones, Kent (Pam) Taylor, and Son-in-Law Keith Umlauf. Loving Grandchildren: Taylor (Kristen Metzger) Jones, Trevor (Katie) Jones, Ashley (Myles) Basso; Austin, Olivia, Graham Umlauf; Kyan and Caden Taylor, and Great Grandchildren: Aubrey and Harper Basso, Colson and Chandler Jones. Sister: Judy (Dennis) Brown and Brother: Jon (Sarah) Taylor. Also, Don and Virginia Rector, Randall and Diane Stooksbury, Nancy and David Greener, Jeffrey and Kami Stooksbury. Numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Kent was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret (nee Stooksbury), Children: Cynthia Umlauf, Jason Taylor, and Grandson Griffin Taylor. Also preceded by his parents Harriet Biehl and John Taylor, Grandparents Frederick and Anna Stelling, Mother-in-law and father-in-law Christine and Rush Stooksbury. In-laws: Patricia and James Jandura, Russ and Wilma Gullickson. Nephews: Matthew, David, Russell, and Ryan Brown.

Kent was a loving, honest, and generous man who cherished his family. He spent his free time teaching his baseball skills to his kids and grandkids. His sense of humor was displayed throughout his life. He enjoyed family cruises, talking politics, church on Sundays followed by lunch & football or pizza night. He could be found at his kids and grandkids sports activities or controlling the TV remote!

A short graveside service led by Pastor Donald Rector will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 11 am at West Creek Cemetery, 20575 Calumet Avenue, Lowell, IN.
