Lemont "Monty" McNab, age 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with aplastic anemia.
He was born February 2, 1943, in East Chicago, to Clifford and Laverne (Evans) McNab, Monty grew up in East Chicago, Indiana, and graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School in 1961.
Monty was employed at LTV Steel after high school working his way to becoming an Electrician. While there he attended Carpenter school where he helped build houses. This was his favorite job. He then worked for St. Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point for 10 years as an Electrician. He followed this by working the final 22 years of his career at US Steel working on breakers at the Gary plant and then being promoted to Planner.
Monty's passion included gardening, fishing, cooking, and sports. Monty was a Master gardener and his favorite food was tacos from Taco Joe's. Monty's favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs, IU men's basketball (especially the Bobby Knight years), and Notre Dame football. Monty loved being a dad as he coached basketball and soccer teams for both his sons, Sean and Scott. Monty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crown Point where he served as an usher.
Monty is survived his wife of 56 years, Judith (Helbling) McNab; son, Sean McNab; son, Scott (Jennifer) McNab; brother Jack (Sandy) McNab; sisters, Candace McNab, and Debbie (Dave) McNab-Casteel; grandchildren Hudson and Harrison McNab; nieces, Kelly Swart, Kristy McNab Morden Pavlo, and Dana Kazee; nephew, Derrick Kozlowski.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy McNab; and a niece Paula.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 12 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Graceland Cemetery, 1505 Morthland Drive, Valparaiso, Indiana (across from Valparaiso University), with Pastor Lothar Thoelke officiating.
