Marilyn Weber Obituary

Marilyn B. Weber

Apr 14, 1931 - Sep 6, 2025

Marilyn B. Weber, 94, an immensely kind and gifted daughter of our Lord God, passed peacefully, with family by her side, on September 6, 2025. She was born April 14, 1931, to Roland and Freda (Johnson) Brenneman, who dearly loved her and her two brothers. Marilyn was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Pastor Donald M. Weber, her dear daughter Beth Ann Weber, her brothers and their wives, John and Mary Lou Brenneman, Robert and Barbara Brenneman, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dorothy (Weber) and Thomas Vlahovich, and niece Patrice (Vlahovich) Toma.

Marilyn had a happy childhood, surrounded by family and friends, in Delphos, Ohio. She started music lessons at a young age, becoming a pianist and organist in her teens, accompanying at local churches. She graduated from Delphos Jefferson High School. She then studied at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and was a parish worker at Faith Lutheran Church in Whitehall, Ohio. It was at Capital University that she met her husband, Donald Weber. They were married at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Delphos, Ohio, on August 14, 1954.

Together in 1955, Pastor Donald and Marilyn Weber moved to Gary, Indiana, to serve Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Over the next six years, they went on to have three daughters, Beth, Susan, and Paula. The family moved to Merrillville, Indiana, in 1965 and stayed there until 1973, when her husband was called to St. John's Lutheran Church in Peoria, Illinois, where he served until 1982. At that time, they returned to serve Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Indiana until 1998. As a Pastor's wife, Marilyn was a dedicated and constant partner in the church ministries. They were an inseparable team. They prayed together, lifting up congregational members and other people they met along the way. They wrote countless cards, which she often accompanied with a special and beautifully wrapped gift. She spoke joyfully about the people she was blessed to serve, and counted every day as a blessing. Marilyn used her musical gifts in many different settings, including when she played the organ this past Easter Sunday at Crown of Life Chapel in Crown Point, Indiana. She was a devoted scholar of the Bible and could be heard asking, "What would Jesus do?" She studied, worked and was a volunteer in many different settings, and she brought beauty and warmth to everything she did. What many who were with her will remember the most is that when you were in her presence, you felt like you were the most important person in the world. Because, to her, you were.

She was very loved by her daughters and their husbands, Susan Christine (Weber) and Howard E. Buchholz II, and Paula Jo (Weber) and Timothy Underwood. She was known as Gammy to her grandchildren, and learned how to use different phone apps to communicate with the six of them and their families. Her grandchildren include Rebecca Anne Buchholz and Felix Hilgers, Carissa Christine Buchholz and Shawn Hipsher, Martina Irene (Buchholz) and George Afari, Taylor James and Chelsea Underwood, Tanner Jacob and Sarah Underwood, and Christiana Beth Underwood. She was blessed to have nine great-grandchildren: Ashi, Anoushka, Clara, Ethan, Asabea, Boahene, Lily, Jack, and Isaiah. She was known as Aunt Marilyn to her Brenneman nieces and nephews, which include Johna (Brenneman) Thompson, Craig Brenneman, Deanna (Brenneman) Hoehn, and Robby Brenneman, and her Vlahovich nieces and nephew, which include Carole (Vlahovich) Heisel, Diane (Vlahovich) Hinrichs, Thomas Vlahovich, Patrice (Vlahovich) Toma, and Fran (Vlahovich) Peavy. She also had other family members that she dearly loved, including her sweet cousin Sandy Lindeman, who grew up in the same area and with whom she shared many fun times. She had many dear friends throughout her lifetime.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 3-6 pm at Greisen Funeral Home, located at 606 E 113th Ave, Crown Point, IN. On Saturday, September 13, there will be a visitation from 10-11 am at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 13221 W. Todd School Road, Glasford, IL 61533. Timothy Underwood will officiate. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
