Mary Kuric Obituary

MARY ROSE KURIC HIGHLAND, IN
Mary Rose Kuric, age 86 of Highland, passed away November 7, 2013. Beloved wife, mother, sister, friend, artist, and servant of God. She is survived by her husband, Steve; daughter, Dr. Joan Kuric (Chicago); son, Dr. Steven (Judy) Kuric (Louisville, KY); daughter, Caroline (Bill) Kuric Hendrickson (Jamul, CA); four grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Katie and Kyle Kuric (Louisville, KY), Ally and Earl Hendrickson (Jamul, CA); sisters: Helen Manich (Schererville) and Millie Benacka (Highland); 10 nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Mary and Anthony Benacka. Mary was a registered nurse and had worked for over 25 years taking care of the needs of her patients as well as her family. An accomplished artist/painter who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago while raising her family, her paintings won many awards, are held in private collections, and are viewable in public places as well. An avid master gardener, Mary also loved to teach art to children, cook, sew, quilt, craft, play bridge, email, and spend time on Facebook connecting with her friends. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Grace parish for over 60 years, and while there was a member of the choir, volunteered in the beer garden, member of the Altar and Rosary Society. As a member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, Mary prayed the rosary daily and was a firm believer and follower of her faith and religion. Mary faced and survived many difficult times throughout her life. She had amazing courage and strength, but most importantly, it was her belief, trust, and faith in God that brought her through every hardship she met. She always remained positive and happy, and taught those around her that the three most important things in life were to love, forgive, and laugh. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Always putting others first before herself. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends who knew her, loved her, and cherished her. A longtime resident of Highland, Mary grew up in East Chicago and was a graduate of Bishop Noll High School. Mary completed her nursing degree and went on to work at St. Catherine's Hospital for many years. She then continued in nursing while working in private duty and for private practice. After retiring from nursing, she pursued her love of painting and gardening until the end of her life. A heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff of the CVU unit and Dr. Bradford P. Blakeman at Munster Community Hospital for their loving and compassionate care of Mary. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Ephesus House of Our Lady of Grace, and masses in memory of Mary Kuric at your choice of church. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church in Highland with Fr. Edward Moszur officiating. At rest St. Joseph/St. John Cemetery. Hard to believe that so many years have passed. Both Mary & Steve were among the nicest people who have ever lived. With my own Mother, Lillian, passing away exactly 6 months ago, I hope & pray that my Mom & Dad (Frank) are continuing their friendship with Mary & Steve in Heaven. :)

It's hard to believe that it has been 6 years since Mary left us. She was one of our favorite people at OLG and loved my Mother, Lillian, like a sister. She prayed for many people, including us, and we are honored to continue praying for her today.

Without a doubt, she is enjoying eternity in Heaven with Mr. Kuric. Wishing eternal peace and happiness for both of them. God does not make better souls than Mary and Steve.

Mary was a talented, dedicated artist and a good friend to my mom and fellow artist, Mary Szendrey, who passed away 9 years ago. Mary always brought my mom a rose when she visited and would leave it in the door if no one was home. I had the pleasure of visiting Mary's studio a few years ago and was really impressed with the quality of all her art. My deepest sympathy to her family.

We were absolutely crushed to hear of the passing of our friend, Mary. She was one of the pillars upon which OLG was built -- and was a very good friend.
