Matthew John Waters
ST. JOHN, IN - Matthew John Waters, age 48, of St. John, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2019. Beloved husband of Toni Simmons Waters. Loving father of Reile Zae Waters and Westin Kaine Waters. Matt's dedication to his work lead him to advance to become a Human Resources Senior Director within Sams Club throughout his 25 years working for the company. He was a kind neighbor, loving friend and a compassionate coworker. He possessed a gift of a charming wit and quirky sense of humor that left a lasting impact on anyone who was blessed to meet him. He was a devoted son of John and Mary Jo Waters, son-in-law to Harry (Nancy) Simmons and Nancy (Edward) Gassner. Dear brother of Daniel (Danielle) Waters and Kelly Spencer Waters, brother-in-law of Timothy (Ronda) Chere and Suzanne (Anthony) Lutz. Proud uncle of Aiden, Ali, Lauren, Brenden, Maya, Makayla, Gage, Dezirae, Taegan.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 P.M. at SMITS FUNERAL HOME, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Lane) Dyer, IN 46311. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions can be made for his children at gofundme.com "Remembering Matt Waters". We had the pleasure of living near Matt for a few years before he moved. We were lucky to get to know him through his brother Dan and wife Danielle. Who are and still remain our neighbors and friends. I hope Matt knows well look after his little brother and family as they mourn his loss. He was a big presence that will be missed by all of us in Autumn Hill. May his memory last forever in your hearts❤

Matt was HR market manager for Sam's Club Butler, PA for a few years when we both got to know him. He was always very pleasant, willing to help and talk to you. He was very friendly to everyone. He made it a point to speak to us even when he seen us outside of Sam's Club. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

I had the pleasure of working with Matt since January 2000. I had just joined the training team and Matt was the first person to greet me during my first day. He had this ability to just make you feel welcome. I will miss his laugh and the kindness he demonstrated to everyone he came in contact with. My condolence are with Toni and his family. I work at Sams Club and knew Matt and worked with him sporadically. Hes a great person, professional co-worker and someone who cared deeply for his family at home and in the workplace. He always had something positive to share and usually offered up some quirky trivia from time to time. He is missed at Sams Club! Matt was such a wonderful leader at Sams club. He had a very upbeat personality and would always take the time to help you with any concerns you had. Always used the ten foot rule and spoke to you as you walked by.He truly will be missed and was a great assest to Sam's and everybody that knew him.

Matt was a very inspirational and humble leader. He touched so many associates at Sams club by simply smiling, listening and sharing his positive insight. I will always remember him visiting me when I was promoted to CM of my first club because he was so reassuring, honest and supportive. I met Matt when I started working at Sams Club.He was a wonderfull man who always had time for everyone.He made you feel special and always had that Hugh smile on his face.

Matt and Toni have been great neighbors and friends for many years. They always had great parties for the kids. And a welcoming smile for any and all that would pass by their home. Matt was such a wonderful leader and man, every time I had ability to be with him, he was so passionate about others and truly caring. I remember coming to the Chicago regional office early one morning as I would and as usual Matt was the first one in and he always made time to ask how family was and I was.
