ST. JOHN, IN - Michael J. Walker age 70, of St. John, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Jane Walker (nee Spanke); dear daughters, Adrienne (Eric) Stadnik and Kristin Walker; precious grandson, Liam Stadnik; sisters, Kim Walker and Sara Donlan; several nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Rose Anna Spanke; in-laws, David (Margaret) Spanke and Mary Ellen (Chris) Boerner. Preceded by his parents, James and Martha Walker (nee Schmidt); father-in-law, Theodore Spanke; brother-in-law, John (still living, Mary) Spanke, and dear family Patricia (still living, Virgil) Beeler.

Dr. Walker was a 1971 graduate of North Central High School in Indianapolis. He went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Purdue University in 1977. He was the owner of Highland Animal Hospital, where he enjoyed serving pets and their owners since 1979. Michael was an avid reader and history buff. He was also quite the cinephile who loved to watch movies and could answer any question since he knew every detail. He loved the outdoors where he enjoyed hiking, camping, and fishing. Michael was also a big sports fan. He particularly enjoyed watching football and cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers, Chicago Blackhawks, and Bears. Michael was very generous and intelligent, had a keen sense of humor and wit, and loved to tell jokes and stories. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed and cherished by all who loved him.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at SOLAN-PRUZIN FUNERAL HOME, 14 Kennedy Ave. Schererville, IN. A Service Celebrating Dr. Walker's Life will be held on Sunday at 5:00 PM. Services conclude at the funeral home. When we first moved to Schererville and got our first pup, we went to Dr. Walker and he was absolutely wonderful. We then bought our second pup and always stayed with him. He was the kindest, most well-informed vet/person and we loved having his personal care for each of our dogs. He hired an amazing staff, too. We are so sad he has died at such a young age! Our prayers are with his family!!!

I had the honor of working for Dr. Walker for the past 8 years. He was one of the most caring, compassionate and ethical veterinarians I have ever met. Despite all of his physical ailments these past few years he never complained and always had a smile. The world is a better place because of Dr. Walker. May his memory be a blessing

Dear Jane & Family,
I was saddened to see this notice. It's been decades since we lived across the cul-de-sac from you, but I still remember what a great family you were. Mike helped us a couple of time with our pet "Baby" and of course it was just a wonderful little community to be living in. My late husband (Chuck) thought Mike was the best vet around!
