Milton Shanker Obituary

MILTON SHANKER "MURPH"
Milton "Murph" Shanker, age 88, of Hobart, formerly a longtime Gary and Miller resident, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Milton was a graduate of Froebel High School, Class of 1938. He was a Veteran of World War II - U.S. Army Air Corps. He and his brother, Robert "Ruby" were the active owners of South Side Sheet Metal Works. He later worked for and was retired from Guarantee Supply Co. Milton was member of Congregation Beth Israel. Milton was preceded in death by his parents: Hyman and Dinah Shanker; and his brother, Robert Shanker. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy (nee Bolewski) Shanker of Hobart; son, Jeffrey Shanker of Maple Shade, NJ; daughter, Karen (David) Levin of Solon, OH; four grandchildren: Matthew and Brent Shanker, and Zachary and Dina Levin; one brother, Arthur (Sara) Shanker of Baltimore, MD; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th Street, Hobart, IN with Rabbi Ben Kramer officiating. Interment at Temple Beth El Cemetery, Portage, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Israel, 535 Progress Ave., Munster, IN 46321. www.burnsfuneral.com

dear Dorothy,
We just learned of Murph's passing. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. He was a terrific guy who I always looked forward to seeing. We feel really terrible that we did not attend his funeral but we are just out of the loop. We hope that you and your family are well. Hopefully We will meet at Stracks as in the past.
