Mitchell Ogiego ROMEOVILLE, IL - Mitchell Ogiego, age 83 of Romeoville, IL, formerly of Merrillville, IN, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018. Survived by wife of 54 years, Bea; three daughters: Michelle (Brad) Hiller, Angela (fiance', Nathan Krieg) Ogiego, Jennifer (Thomas) Browne; four granddaughters: Lauren Hiller, Lindsay Hiller, Kaitlin Browne, Sarah Browne; sister, Michaeline (late Richard) Golbesky; brother, Jerome (late Dolores) Ogiego. Mitchell was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Merrillville. He was a graduate of Froebel High School. He attended and played quarterback at the University of Iowa and was in the 1959 Rose Bowl. He also played professional football for the British Columbia Lions in Vancouver, Canada. Mitchell was an Army veteran and a member of Silver Bell Club, Lodge 2365. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Lake County Sheriff Department and was a retired deputy coroner from the Lake County Coroner's Office. Franciscan Dr. (south of St. Rd. 231 on St. Rd. 55), Crown Point on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY from Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 8303 Taft St., Merrillville with Rev. Peter Muha officiating. There will be one half-hour of visitation at church prior to mass. Services to conclude at church with cremation to follow.
