Rev. Paul E. Schwartz Rev. Paul E. Schwartz, retired priest serving the Archdiocese of Chicago for 54 years, died at St. James Manor/Villas on Friday, September 7, 2007. Father Paul was born February 11, 1927 in Stoyestown, PA, to Eugene and Anna Schwartz. His family moved to Calumet City where he attended St. Victor School, received a scholarship to Quigley Preparatory Seminary and graduated in 1946. He graduated University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein, IL with a BA in Philosophy and received his Master of Arts in Theology in 1953. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by the late Cardinal Stritch on May 3, 1953, celebrating his first mass at his home parish of St. Victor in Calumet City. He began his service to the Archdiocese serving Our Lade Gate of Heaven until 1962, served as Assistant at St. Margaret Mary until 1967, Our Lady of Mercy until 1972 and St. George in Tinley Park until 1975. He was then appointed the serve as Associate at St. Ann in Lansing until 1980, St. Kieran in Chicago Heights until 1986 and St. John in Glenwood until 1997. He retired from active duty on May 31, 1997. He took up residency at St. James Parish in Sauk Village, IL, where he became involved with assisting at masses, planning Adult Education and had a deep interest in the Religious Education of the children. In 2001 he moved to St. James Villas and Manor due to physical complications. He was able to help with the Pastoral Care of patients and staff. He was known to all who met him as a compassionate and caring priest. During his active ministry he visited his parishioners at home, at hospitals and nursing homes. Fr. Paul was an avid fisherman and member of Knights of Columbus Council 3540 in Lansing, IL. He leaves a legacy of caring and love to his surviving sister, Jean (Ed) Sidor, Highland, IN; loving nieces Anita (Tom) Hemingway and children Allison, Jake and Katie of Munster, IN, Joanna (Dennis) Huis, Durango, CO; nephew Martin (Linda) Sidor, children Jason and Becky of Cranbury, N.J. and Christy (Dave) Willians of Little Rock, AR. In addition cousins Gail (Gary) Kincaid, Savannah, MO, Eileen (Ed) Wright, Culver, IN, Sylvia (Guenther) Traut of Darmstadt, Germany and their families. He will be deeply missed by his special close friends and their children whose lives he enriched, touched and shared. They include Joe and Irene Chelbana, formerly of Lansing, IL now residing in Cassapolis, MI, Gerry and Karen Giese of Mokena, IL, Tom and Nancy Henry of Michigan City, IN, Rex and Pam Peterson of Matteson, IL, Pam Scott and Darlene Machielson at St. James, Bill (Deceased) and Pat Trebs of Crete, IL and many others who were close to his heart. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rosemoor Funeral Home, Torrence Ave., Lansing. Visitation will be at St. James Church, 22244 Torrence Ave., Sauk Village, IL on Tuesday September 11, 2007 from 3-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9-10a.m. Celebration Mass of his life will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant will be Bishop Timothy Lyne, Auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Chicago, Vicar for Senior Priests, Homilist, Fr. Tom Conde, concelebrating Fr. David Krolczyk, pastor of St. James with other guest clergy and Deacons John Bumbul and Tony Herman. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL. In lieu of flowers the family requests and donations be made to Priests Retirement and Mutual Aid Association.
