PETER GOMBEN BEECHER, IL Peter Gomben, aged 89, of Beecher, IL went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2015, after a short illness. Peter was born on November 12, 1925 in Hammond, IN. His parents were Peter and Erma (West) Gomben. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Luther) Gomben; brother, Paul Gomben; sister- in-law, Alice Luther; brother- in-law, Theodore Luther. Peter is survived by his son, Gerald (Lynda) Gomben of Merrill, WI; daughter, Patricia Schaddelee of Beecher, IL; daughter, Deborah (William) Meeter of Valparaiso, IN; grandsons, Logan and Shane Meeter of Valparaiso, IN; sister-in-law, Ann Gomben; brother-in-law, Earl Luther; sister-in-law, Winifred Luther; nephews and nieces. Peter was a United States Army WWII Veteran and POW, and worked as a salesman and Vice President for Rainer Rinn-Scott Lumber Company in Chicago for 32 years. He was a long-time member of Lorimer Baptist Church in Dolton, IL and then Beecher Community Church in Beecher, IL. Peter loved the Lord, his wife, his children and his grandsons with all his heart. He enjoyed reading, watching the Cubs, and spending time with family and friends. Memorials can be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Northwest Indiana (DSA of NWI), or the American Cancer Society. Visitation Tuesday, July 7th, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Beecher Funeral Home, 602 Dixie Hwy., Beecher, IL 60401. Funeral service at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
