PETER PAUL OPRISKO, SR. WHITING, IN

Peter Paul Oprisko, Sr., 81 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the William J. Riley Memorial Residence, Munster. He is survived by his loving son, Peter Paul (Melissa) Oprisko, II; adoring grandpa of Peter Paul Oprisko, III; dear brother of Nick (late Jane) Oprisko, Carolyn (late Donald) Plesner, Dorothy (late Charles) Williams, Catherine (late Anthony) Sahulcik and the late John "Ed", George and Albert Oprisko, and Anna Rutledge; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 with an 11:00am Liturgy at St. Mary's Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 2011 Clark St., Whiting, with the Rev. Stephen Muth, officiating; interment, St. Mary Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00pm and at the church on Friday morning from 10:30am to time of services. Peter Paul Oprisko was born on June 5, 1935 in Whiting, Indiana to John and Anna (Matej) Oprisko. He was a lifelong resident and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1953. He was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting and was a US Army Veteran. He was a retiree of LTV Steel, East Chicago with a service of 30 years and was a member of the USW, Local 1011. Peter was politically active in Whiting from the 1970's through the 1990's. He was a Republican Precinct Committeeman for 15 years, was a past chairman of the Whiting Board of Zoning Appeals and had served on the Whiting Planning Commission. Renown for the unique home he designed and built at 117th and Sheridan in Whiting, Peter was a Radio/TV DXing enthusiast and was a member of the WTFDA. He enjoyed bird watching and was an avid collector of Frank Sinatra memorabilia, having amassed one of the top five collections in the world. A devoted father and grandpa, Peter will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
