Phillip M. Jonas

PHILLIP M. JONAS VALPARAISO, IN Phillip M. Jonas, age 86, a Valparaiso resident since 1927, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at home. He was born February 12, 1923 in Terre Haute to the late Phillip J. and Bernice (Myers) Jonas. On May 14, 1954, he married Mary M. Parker who survives, along with their four children: Douglas and Bill Jonas both of Valparaiso; Sally (Gary) Zerza of Valparaiso and Jane (Aaron) Kimble of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Nicole Jonas of Indianapolis, Aaron, Alec and Luke Zerza of Valparaiso, Brandan Kimble of Valparaiso (currently serving in the Marines), Erika (Carl) Miller of Lake Station and Justin Zerza of Chicago, IL; and great grandson, Logan Miller. Phillip graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1941. He served three and one-half years with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, then graduated from Valparaiso Technical School. He worked at Indiana General, then McGill's Manufacturing until his retirement in 1991. While at Indiana General, he assisted guitar legend, Les Paul, with sizing up the proper magnets for a new pick designed by Mr. Paul. Besides enjoying his family, Phillip loved music and played the saxophone in his first dance band at age 13 and played in dance bands ever since. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 26, 2009 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Rev.
