RICHARD D. ORBIK WHITING, IN
Richard D. Orbik, 78 of Whiting, passed away peacefully Friday, October 3, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Andrea (nee Kukta); loving father of Greg (Julie) Orbik; cherished grandfather of Nicole (Joshua) Moore, Cpl Nicholas Orbik, USMC and Jeremy Orbik; dearest step-brother of Mary Jane Kinley; dear brother in law of Carolyn (Vick) Brent and Gerald (Mary Alice) Kukta; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Kevin M. Scalf, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Parish wake service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Richard Orbik was born on September 7, 1936 in Anderson, IN and was a long time resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting; the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council, 1696 (prayers Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.) and the Fourth Degree, Abraham Lincoln General Assembly. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 (memorial service, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.). Richard was a member of the Whiting BPOE, 1273 who will conduct services Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. He was a retiree of the Inland Steel Co., East Chicago with a service of 29 years and was a member of the Inland Steel 25 Year Club.
