HAMMOND, IN - On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Sammy Joe Noojin, age 73, passed away, surrounded by family and friends.
He is survived by his loving children, Tracy (Brian) Gereg, Jennifer Noojin, Steven Noojin, and Rebecca (Jason) Gardner; grandchildren, Justin (Vanessa), Kelsey (Michael), Aneesia, Morgan, Matthew, Sam, Kaitlin, Evan, Elliot, Brooklyn, and Spencer; beloved friends; and best canine pals, Poppy and Layla.
Sam was born August 31, 1950, in Austell, GA, and was a 1968 graduate of Gavit High School. On October 19, 1968, he married the love of his life, his dear Brenda Jane Noojin, and together they shared 54 years, raising their four children in their Hammond family home. Sam retired from Inland Steel in East Chicago after 43 years of service.
Sam enjoyed gardening, attending Beatlefest with his family, going to breakfast with his fellow retirees, but most of all, he was devoted to being the most loving, supportive Papa he could be to his eleven grandchildren; Sharon and her girls, and many others who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sammy was a loving son, brother, father, Papa, and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at HILLSIDE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
