William Iddings Obituary

Mr. William Jonathan Iddings, known to many as "Bill" or "Chicken Bill," passed away on February 12, 2025, in Crown Point, Indiana, at the age of 73.

Born on December 21, 1951, in East Chicago, Indiana, Bill built a life rooted in hard work and dedication. He was the proud owner of Bill's Hienie's Restaurant on 84th and Commercial in Chicago, where he made a lasting impact on his community. In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, he spent the past 18 years as a truck driver, embracing the open road with determination and skill.

Bill was a devoted husband to Shirley Iddings. He is survived by his brother David (Wendy) Iddings and sister Rhonda (Rich) Lathom. He was a loving father to Angela (Ed) Kralj, Jacob (Melissa) Iddings, Lori (Ronald) Porter-Jones, and LeVaugn Foshee. His legacy continues through his four granddaughters and one great-granddaughter, who brought him immense joy.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Ruth Motyka, Floyd Iddings Jr., and Verna Abbott.

Those who knew Bill remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose presence enriched the lives of those around him with his quick wit. His memory will be carried forward by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I have known Bill since he was 15 years old and he wanted a job at my restaurant in Hammond Indiana. I gave him a job cleaning up mess and that was the start of him working for me at Hienies. He latter bought the business from me and worked there for many years. He was a dedicated , honest and good man. Robert McCarthy and

He was a very kind man. When I was having teeth problems, his fries were the only one I could eat. He would deliver them himself. Great memories. What a wonderful, kindhearted person. Rest in peace. Food was always delicious too.
