William Idzior Obituary

William Jacob "Bill" Idzior, 79 of Crown Point, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025. He was born on August 31, 1945 in Gary, Indiana, to the late Jacob and Sophie (Wilusz) Idzior. A 1963 graduate of Merrillville High School, Bill continued his education at Rose-Hulman and graduated from Purdue Calumet in 1970 and then obtained his master's degree. He taught math for 40 years, teaching at River Forest, Boone Grove, and retired from Merrillville High School. While teaching he also coached high school baseball at River Forest and Little League baseball, even before coaching his own boys. Bill was an avid bowler, he competed at the professional level and won a senior regional title, and he was the first bowling coach at Boone Grove High School. He was also the author, under the pen name of Gary Hilton, of the Adventures of Cary Moore in the Bowling News. When he wasn't teaching, coaching, or bowling, you could find him in the garden or watching trains, he loved seeing the steam trains. Bill enjoyed traveling, especially along Lake Michigan, and he was a huge White Sox, Packers, and Purdue fan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
On October 28, 1972, Bill married Christine "Chris" Berg who survives along with their sons, Brian, David, and Andrew Idzior; brothers-in-law, Tony (Dawn) Berg and John Berg; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Buppy, Barney, and Bubbles.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 12:00-2:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 PM and burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Porter County Animal Shelter.
