ABRAHAM EINHORN Obituary

EINHORN--Abraham "ABE", May 30, 1925 to May 4, 2011. "A Backstage Broadway Icon is Gone" Master Property Man on Broadway and Playwright. Born on the Lower Eastside, he married his childhood sweetheart Rena Gatti. They were together for 69 years when she passed away several years ago. In World War II he was in the Navy, a Sea B stationed in Okinawa. When he returned to New York he began his theatre career. He spent 30 years back stage on some of the longest running plays on Broadway. The laughter backstage was often louder than the audience laughter. He wrote his first play "Agatha Sue I Love You" produced by George Abbott and opened at the Henry Miller Theatre in New York City on December 14, 1966. After he retired he spent his summers in East Hampton and the rest of the year in Laughlin, Nevada. Walking, gambling, reading and writing were his passions and he did all four everyday of his life. Everywhere he went he kept them laughing. He will be missed by all who knew him. His death was sudden, he lived on the fast track and died the same way. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Vista Apartments in Laughlin on what would have been his 86th Birthday May 30th. He is survived by his daughter Janice Robinson of East Hampton, NY, where he spent his summers, and a son Richard Einhorn, a brother Jerry Einhorn.

I only knew Abe for a brief time and only saw him when in town visiting my Nana Elsie. Always a hoot and a half with his stories, jokes and zest for life! Never a dull moment with Abe. With such energy I will never forget!
