ALANA DONOHUE Obituary

DONOHUE--Alana,

19, of New York City, died June 23, 2016 as a result of anaphylaxis. She was born on July 3, 1996 in New York City, the daughter of Teddy and Niki Donohue. She attended The Chapin School, an all-girls independent day school located in Manhattan. She spent her junior year of high school in Beijing, China studying Mandarin as part of the SYA program. She was currently enrolled at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire as part of the class of 2018. Alana lived a life of joy and passion that revolved around family and friends, adventure and intellectual curiosity. Alana was an intrepid traveler, crossing the globe to such faraway places as Vietnam, Cambodia, Egypt, Turkey and South America. At the age of sixteen, she headed off to China for a year of language immersion and travel. In addition to Mandarin, early in her academic career she exhibited both a strong interest in and a keen aptitude for mathematics. It became a cornerstone of her academic pursuits, which she continued upon arriving at Dartmouth in the fall of 2013. Finally, Alana's life was full of friends and laughter. She was a whirlwind of fun and energy, and these traits characterized all of her interactions with everyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with her. Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home of New York City is handling funeral services. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 26 from 2-7pm. The funeral will be held on Monday, June 27 at 10:30am at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. She is survived by her parents, Teddy and Niki; her brother, Peter; her grandfather Peter and grandmother, Carolann; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Donations may be made to the Alana Donohue Fund at Dartmouth College.

Dear Donohue Family,
I am terribly sorry for your loss, and my prayers are with you that you stay strong and support each other in this time of need. I will never forget Ilana from sleep away camp, she was always the most bubbly and outgoing person in the girls age group. I am sure she is looking down from above doing everything she loves and more.

Nicki and Family, We are so incredibly sorry for your loss. Oliver attended the wake. Jim and I are in LA so could not attend but of course we would have been there. I know there are no words I can express that could help with this unimaginable loss. If our family can do anything we are all here for you, and Oliver for Peter.

Teddy and Nikki, I don't know what to say. I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter, Alana. I can't imagine this kind of loss. Many wiser folks than me have said 'parents are not made to bury their kids'. I will keep you in my thoughts. Be strong.
Love Jimmy-Nic.
