We also were touched deeply by Alex's photo in the Times. That it appeared several days in a row also added to our concern and sympathy for your family. We as parents identify with you and share your grief and pain.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Rothwell and Zach-
I am one of the people who saw Alexander's photo in the NYT and was struck by how much he had accomplished in such a short time and how special your family must be...

I, too, was struck by his glowing face in The New York Times and impressed by his gifts and accomplishments. My husband and I lost our only son at age 18, so I know intimately the grief that you feel. I hope that the joys that you shared with him will continue to enrich your life. I already contribute to Oceana, but will make an additional gift in his honor.

Please allow a comment from a stranger. I noticed Alexander's beautiful face in the paper this past weekend and am drawn each morning since to see it again. What an accomplished young man, it reads that you have shared wonderful life together, albeit too short.
I pray for strength for your family and that you find yourselves surrounded by loving family and friends to help you through these days.

I, too, am a stranger to your family; just a Dad who read in The Times of your son's passing. His face carries wisdom beyond his years, and the beautiful summary of his too-brief life hinted at experiences to be envied by those of us far, far older. With apologies for intruding on your grief, please accept my heartfelt hope that sweet memories and the abiding love of one another will carry you through these dark days.

Mr. and Mrs. Rothwell: My name will mean nothing to you. Having seen Alexander's photo in the NY Times this week, as a parent I wanted to extend my condolences at the lost of such a beautiful child. I cannot imagine your pain. His thirteen years were filled with accomplishment, and more importantly, love. You can tell from his face how much love he gave and how much you gave him. I don't mean to intrude, but I could not help writing-May Alexander's memory always bring you joy.

Susan, Jim, and Zach - There are no words for how we are feeling, and for how devastated we are for you. We love you, and we will always love and miss Alex. He was an amazing person - brilliant, thoughtful, charismatic, curious, funny, insightful, adventurous, and always interesting and engaging company - and and we feel incredibly lucky to have known him.
