Working for Mr. Ecker for 11 years at Time-Warner was a happy experience; I shall always remember him as kind, courteous and thoughtful to all who knew him.

One of my fondest memories of Uncle Allan is of a trip home to Sparta, Wisconsin, for a summer visit. Aunt Liz, Uncle Allan and I got stuck at O'Hare Airport for many hours, waiting for our connection to La Crosse. After many delays, and being shuffled from one gate to another, children were tired, parents were hassled, the small gate area was overcrowded, and people were getting grouchy.
My Uncle Allan disappeared briefly. Then he suddenly reappeared, with two large brown bags – full of ice cream bars! He began passing them out to everyone in the gate area. In a short time, people were laughing and smiling, children were happy, and strangers were chatting with each other.
Uncle Allan sat back down with a satisfied chuckle, and said ... "That was a good investment!" That's the kind of thoughtful generosity I always admired about my Uncle Allan.

Mr. Ecker will always be remembered by me because he offered to give me $5,000 to help me attend Harvard Law School. Though I did not accept he helped a lot of young people and was a great man and true lawyer who was advised mabny through their troubles. Condolences to Mrs. Ecker and Sarah.

I recently searched for Allan's contact information and was saddened to see his obituary. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Though my connection with Allan was only through working on his house he and Elizabeth treated me as a friend. When I told Allan of my battle against a bank for racial discrimination in their mortgage lending policy he immediately called a lawyer and assigned her to help. He also wrote a letter to the judge assigned to the case. He was the only lawyer that I ever found that cared about the issue and helped me even though I did not ask for his help and he had only just recently met me. This is just one example of his kindness and humility that is so rare in our world and I join those who miss and adored him. Tom Doane
