AMY O'CONNOR Obituary

O'CONNOR--Amy. Amy Catherine O'Connor died peacefully on December 20, 2023 at home in Dobbs Ferry, NY, after a year-long struggle with ovarian cancer. She was 57. Amy grew up in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, where she enjoyed a good deal of freedom at an early age and developed a precocity beyond her years. She had a passion for horses and spent many summer vacations riding. Amy attended the University of Chicago, transferred to the University of California at Berkeley to earn a bachelor's degree in sociology, and later earned a master's degree in journalism at Northwestern University. She moved to New York City in 1994 and worked as a magazine editor at Conde Nast, Hachette and Rodale before successfully transitioning to digital media in the health and wellness field with her final position as Vice President of Media at GoodRx. She was an avid runner and a creative dynamo constantly taking on new projects be it painting, cooking, making picture frames, renovating old furniture or cultivating a plant jungle. She loved being home, tending to her son, the houseplants and the animals. Amy will be remembered by her family and friends for her loyalty, her whip-smart sense of humor, her strength and her unceasing care for others. Amy is survived by her husband, Alan Niewald; her son, Sean Miller (a freshman at American University) and his father, Bryan Miller; her mother, Gloria St. John; her siblings Sarah O'Connor (Mohammed Djeddour) and Benjamin Tasner; and her niece, Lilia Djeddour. Amy is also survived by her loving "bonus family" of Paul Tasner, Barbara Walter, Andrew Tasner and Lilian Niewald, as well as her aunts and uncles and more Chicago cousins than can possibly be named. She was predeceased by her father, James Timothy O'Connor of Chicago. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1pm-3pm at Edwards Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave., Dobbs Ferry, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Amy's memory to bestfriends.org, an animal sanctuary.

I loved Amy's sincere smile and her warm laughter. She lit up any room she was in, with her personality, her sense of fun, and her energy. I'm so honoured to have had the opportunity to meet her and work with her.

To be honest, I can´t remember where our paths crossed, but Amy was memorable. Sincere, funny, creative and a joy. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. So young.
