ANNE HUBBARD Obituary

HUBBARD--Anne A. The Board and Staff of The New York Botanical Garden mourn the death of our very dear and longstanding friend Anne A. Hubbard. Anne and her husband Tom, who died in 2017, began their long relationship with NYBG nearly 50 years ago, and were among the most stalwart and creative champions of its mission. Anne joined the Board in 2000 and served for 18 years before receiving the title of Life Trustee in 2018. Anne was a passionate Trustee as she participated as a member of the Garden's Executive, Budget, Investment, Horticulture, and Science Committees, as well as holding the office of Board Secretary/Treasurer. She and Tom, who led as NYBG's Chair for nine years, helped guide the Garden during a vital renaissance period and displayed a remarkable commitment to its scientific endeavors by endowing many positions and programs. Anne's genuine and deep love of the Garden was evident to all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her kindness, compassion, and wit were always on display to her fellow Board members and staff at all levels. Among NYBG activities she most loved were traveling with botanists to remote tropical places, introducing new people to NYBG, and hosting dinners in London for the Garden's international friends. Anne and Tom's historic importance and exemplary service to this unique cultural institution were recognized when they were honored with the Gold Medal of The New York Botanical Garden. We extend our deepest condolences to her sister Gillian, and to her children, John, Daniel, Harriet, and David. J. Barclay Collins II, Chair Maureen K. Chilton, Chair Emerita Jennifer Bernstein, CEO & President Gregory Long, President Emeritus
