BARBARA HARRIS

HARRIS--Barbara G. Barbara Goldman Harris passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023 in the arms of family after a long and gallant battle with cancer. Barbara was a zealous advocate for peace, equality, women's rights and a healthful environment. A beloved teacher of children and adults, including those learning English, Barbara spent a lifetime advocating for the causes she so brilliantly championed. Married at nineteen to Gerald, the two forged a relationship of over 67 years founded on a profound love, common commitments and a shared joy in poetry. Barbara's concern for others led her to join Code Pink and to help found the Granny Peace Brigade. Her stand for peace resulted in an arrest, trial and acquittal. Barbara raised her daughters Victoria and Lesley even as she pursued her education gaining a degree from Hunter College and two Masters degrees. Her memory will forever inspire her family, granddaughters Nicole (Chris) and Natalie, her great- granddaughters Kaitlyn and Emily and all who cherish human rights. The funeral will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel on September 18 at 11am.
