My condolences to Barbara's family. My introduction to art history was a survey course she taught in 1974 at Rutgers, Camden. It was life changing for me. I found a new passion and someone who became a true mentor. I was a senior and though my direction was set. Dr. Lane encouraged me that I was just a late bloomer and helped pave the way for me with extra classes and independent studies. I visited her house in Narberth to see her Pechstein prints. In graduate school I took as many of her classes as possible. She was an excellent teacher. I've had a rewarding career in museum work (National Gallery of Art and NJ Office of Historic Sites) and I don't know if it would have happened without her. She saw some promise in a confused twenty year old and her confidence and guidance changed my life. I am truly grateful. Margaret O'Neil

My introduction to art history was in 1974 when I took a survey course at Rutgers, Camden taught by Barbara. It was life changing for me as I discovered a passion and found a true mentor. I was a senior and thought it was too late for me to change my direction. Her response was "you're just a late bloomer." She opened a door for me into a world I'd never imagined. I remember going to her home in Narberth to see her Pechstein prints. In graduate school I took as many of her courses as I could. She was an excellent teacher. I've had a rewarding career in museum work (National Gallery of Art and NJ Office of Historic Sites) and I am so grateful to her for believing in and guiding a confused twenty year old. My deepest condolences to her family.

I remember Barbara very fondly and remember her broad, friendly smile. She was my professor at Rutgers where she encouraged my work. I later became a colleague in Northern Art and I really liked her. I want to extend my sympathies to her entire family.
(I apologize for writing this "late" as a friend just sent the announcement to me this evening--knowing I had sincere affection for her)
