BERNARD WEINTRAUB Obituary

WEINTRAUB--Bernard "Bernie" Martin, beloved husband, father and friend to so many passed away on January 16, 2010 at 1:54pm in Los Angeles, California. His wife of 52 years Ellie, children Danny, Lizzie, daughter-in-law Vinnet and nephew Irv were by his side. Bernie passed peacefully and did not suffer. Bernie lived a life full of adventure, accomplishment, laughter, love and friendship. One of those rare people who everyone loved, Bernie always had a smile on his face, a song in his heart, a positive and uplifting spirit and an encouraging word for his family, friends and clients. Bernie severed his country proudly during the Korean War and was one of the founding partner's of the boutique literary agency Robinson Weintraub and of the Paradigm literary and talent agency. His clients worked on numerous iconic television shows including I Love Lucy, The Jackie Gleason Show, All in the Family, M.A.S.H., Maude, Sanford & Son, The Cosby Show, Different Strokes and Roseanne, to name just a few. Bernie had many charitable interests, giving generously to groups that promoted Jewish causes, the State of Israel, civil rights, the environment and the humane treatment of animals. He helped found Laniado Hospital in Israel and was on the Board of Governors of Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. His funeral will take place on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 2pm PST at Mount Sinai Mortuary 5950 Forrest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Bernie's honor to American Israel Cultural Center (www.aicf.org; 212.557.1600) Jewish National Fund (www.jnf.org; 888.JNF.0099) American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org; 1.800.diabetes).

Russell and I were very saddened to learn just this morning of Bernie's passing. Bernie's was utterly charming, lovely, upright and damn funny. My days as an agent with Bernie and Stu in the late 1980's are memorable ones. Bernie would always leave me laughing after every encounter, and he would coin phrases that were dead on. I keenly remember after just meeting my visiting 5'1", 95 pound sister, his calling her the "toy person", which has pretty much stuck to her ever since. I'm honored to have known Bernie and my prayers are with you now in your grief.

I remember seeing both Bernie and Ellie together at my parents house in New Jersey when I was 12 or 13(I am now 54). I remember him fondly-he was a kind, funny, compassionate man. He seemed to love life and truly appreciate its wonderful gifts.
So, I am a cousin living presently in Western New York. My father was
named Angelo and my mother was named Helen. Recently, I visited
with the Cannito side of the family.
Now, I'd like to express my family's sorrow for your loss.
Sincererly,
Jim, Debbie(nee Tartagia), Ashley

At this time, I'd like to express my family's condolences for their loss.
Sincerely,

I am one of the many who loved Bernie, who benefitted from our friendship, and who will sorely miss him... I will always feel comforted by his comment of "NEXT" whenever I shared some difficulty with him... He was a wise, funny and caring friend. My love and condolences to Ellie, Danny, Liz and all the family, Nancy Blatt Myers
