CHARLES FAHEY Obituary

FAHEY--Reverend Monsignor Charles J. ArchCare, the healthcare system of the Archdiocese of New York, mourns the passing of our longtime trustee, advisor and friend, Monsignor Charles J. Fahey. A legendary leader, teacher, advocate and change agent in the field of aging services, Msgr. Fahey's pastoral work as a priest, voice for dignity and compassion in the development of public policy around aging and scholarly insights as the Marie Ward Doty Professor of Aging Studies (emeritus) at Fordham University have shaped the national and international dialogues on care of the elderly for more than six decades. With his steadfast focus on the physical, social and spiritual needs of every individual served, he challenged healthcare professionals and policymakers to think beyond the four walls of a traditional nursing home and develop home- and community-based alternatives, such as PACE, that seniors desired and would welcome and support. His dedication to justice, respect, inclusiveness and benevolence--values as fundamental to caregiving as they were to his Catholic faith--will remain an inspiration to us, our ministry and all whom he blessed with his wisdom. Contributions may be made to ArchCare at www.archcare.org/donate or the Loretto Foundation, 700 East Brighton Ave., Syracuse, NY 13205. Scott LaRue, President and CEO; Francis J. Serbaroli, Esq., Chair of the Board of Trustees

It was a Blessing and Honor to service Mass at SJW´s 6:45 am Mass with Monsignor Fahey before Covid prevented us from morning Mass. My Wife and I will miss him dearly.

Like so many, I was honored to serve with Fr Chuck and learn from him. His work advocating for affordable older adult care was epic. Well done, good and faithful servant.
