Looking up an old friend to catch up and my heart breaks for his family. Charlie was a mentor, teacher, colleague and friend throughout the first 22 years of my career at two different companies. Had I known his life would be cut so senselessly short I would not have lost touch when I moved on 9 years ago. A wonderful man. He was kind, intelligent and quick with a joke. In an industry where time is money, he was one of the most generous people I have ever known. When I knew nothing he did not condescend, and he instead taught me so much. Including this: Shalom aleichem friend.

How many times during the last 12 months have I wanted to call Charlie to share a story, to ask a question or to get a new joke? Like some many of you, for me I have wanted to call Charlie so many times. His memory is truly a blessing, but his passing is still l huge loss. My love and warmest thoughts are with Judy, Erica, Laura, Dan and their mates and children.

Dear Judy and family,
I am so sad to read that Charlie died...you were both so important to me as a young professional, alum and staff person at Cornell. I often visited with Charlie at his, always busy, office in NY, but I'm not sure if we ever shared with one anther that we were both adult children of Survivors of the Holocaust. As the years went on, that became easier to speak about, and my identity from my parents took on greater import. I became a leader of the Jewish community of CU Hilell, and then in Ithaca, serving on the community's Board and founding a large Second Generation group here. I will always remember him and send this with my gratitude for all you do and who you are. Yours, Vally (still reachable at vnk1@CU.

Dearest Judy,
What a terrible loss Charlie´s passing is to so many people and great causes and institutions, but most of all to you and your wonderful family. He was truly a mensch who loved life, his work, his philanthropic and civic causes, being an American and a Jew. But most of all, he loved you and your children and grandchildren.
We will never forget him and will love you all always.

I was shocked and so sad to learn of Charlie's passing. He was so warm and calming when my Charlie died suddenly, as well.
My sincere condolences to you and the family of which Charlie would speak so proudly.
I will miss his kindness and intelligent advice. I hope time will ease your pain.

I am shocked and immensely saddened to learn of Charlie´s passing. He was way too young to leave us. I knew Charlie through the Americans for BGU, of which we were both Board members and he chaired the Marcus Endowment Investment Committee. Baruch Dayan Ha Emet. May he RIP and may his family find comfort in knowing that he enriched the Jewish community for generations beyond his lifetime.
