CHRISTOPHER BROWNE Obituary

BROWNE--Christopher H. Date of death: December 13, 2009. It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of our partner and friend, Chris Browne. Chris joined Tweedy, Browne after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969, and became a partner of the Firm in 1974. Chris was part of the second generation of Brownes to work at Tweedy, Browne, following in the footsteps of his father, Howard Browne. Earlier this year, Chris formally took a step back from his daily involvement and became a senior advisor to the firm. His tenure at Tweedy, Browne spans some 40 years during which time Tweedy, Browne evolved from being a rather small investment advisor to a global investment manager that today manages in excess of $10 billion, for individuals, institutions and family groups from all over the world. In addition to his money management responsibilities over the years, Mr. Browne also spoke frequently on the topic of behavioral psychology and financial decision making, and formerly served on the faculty advisory committee of Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government's program in Investment Decisions and Behavioral Finance. In 2007, Chris authored The Little Book of Value Investing which was the second installment of Wiley's Little Book Big Profits Series. Chris was a caring and generous man and had a number of philanthropic interests including serving on the boards of the University of Pennsylvania, the Rockefeller University, the Museum of Television and Radio, and the Long Island Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. Chris' intelligence, integrity and generosity made an immeasurable contribution to our Firm and the community over the years. We will miss his wit, charm and loving personality. Chris was a long time friend. He always made me feel special by asking me what I was up to, laughing at my jokes, and kidding me with his dry sense of humour. Over the many years I knew him, Chris created many memorable events, parties, vacations and dinners to bring all his friends together. Chris knew how to make made me feel welcome and appreciated for who I was. I will really miss him. How lucky we were to have him in our lives. Thomas Puckett

Chris was blessed with a tremendous intellect and I have benefited from the shared wisdom of his interviews and writings over the years. He will be particularly missed by all of us in the investment community.
