I remember when you were born nephew. One month after your cousin Amber. You were a precious baby. It's still hard to wrap my mind around the fact that your'e gone. Your death has shown me to be more grateful for those still here that I love. To take advantage of every moment because the next is not promised. To care for those who grieve because they need to know they are not forgotten. Your auntie loves you forever Chris. Love always, Jessica <3

It is hard to believe it's been a year since Chrissy's homegoing. This has been the hardest year ever; esecially since Chrissy's Papi passed away also. Chrissy you better be with Papi! Nanie loves you so much! And Papi, you're my Life forever. Oh how the family misses them both. Thankful to God, we'll see them again!

As I look at each new picture added I remember almost every stage (except for the distance we lived from each other) of Christopher's growth. He was so bright, so loving, and at times so very funny, actually hilarious. I feel daddy's heart during and after reading the poem added. And I agree, many people say time will heal, but from personal experience; if I had my choice I'd rather not heal. If healing means forgetting or not thinking about Chrissy, I'd rather not.
In the many conversations and memories shared between Nanie and Papi, we find laughter, peace, and are able to feel such a special and still alive love for Chrissy, because we know he still loves us. If there's one thing we're grateful for is...time cannot end love. It lives on forever and ever. We love you Chrissy and you're forever in our hearts. The trees donated in your honor honey are growing beautifully and every time we see them it puts a smile on our faces, oh precious grandson. Thank you God for keeping Chrissy and for the hope that we WILL see each other again.

My man! My Heart!
Your Dad Canales
February 15, 2016
Christopher Gerard Canales lovingly called Biggy Smalls by me due to the way he carried himself. He was an old soul. He was strong willed, opinionated, with a huge heart. He loved deep and hard. He was compassionate and sweet. He was my man! I found the following poem by an unknown author that sums up how I am currently feeling:
A Picture of You
By Unknown Author
I only have a picture now,
A frozen piece of time,
To remind me of how it was,
When you were here, and mine.
I see your smiling eyes,
Each morning when I wake,
I talk to you, and place a kiss,
Upon your lovely face.
How much I miss you being here,
I really cannot say,
The ache is deep inside my heart,
And never goes away.
I hear it mentioned often,
That time will heal the pain,
But if I'm being honest,
I hope it will remain.
I need to feel you constantly,
To get me through the day,
I loved you so very much,
I wish that you had stayed.
The angels came and took you,
That really wasn't fair,
They took my Son,
My future life. My heir.
If only they had asked me,
If I would take your place,
I would have done so willingly,
Leaving you this world to grace.
You should have had so many years,
To watch your life unfold,
And in the midst of this,
Watch me grow old!
I hope you're watching from above,
At the daily tasks I do,
And let there be no doubt at all,
I really do love you.
Biggy I always told you that no matter what I got you! Well now I need my angel, YOU, to have me! This is so hard and I miss you more and more every day! I can't hold you in my arms any longer. So, I need you now more than ever to let me feel you in my heart! You are my baby, my son, my man! I hope you know that I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART! Rest Biggy! Your Daddy Misses You Now and Forever!

Ms. Robin (Stepmom)
November 25, 2015
As I sit here thinking what to write, it never occurred to me that I would be faced with the difficult task of writing a memorial tribute and putting to words all that you have meant to me over the years. You were only 7 years old, when you came into my life, just a small boy an old soul with a small stature emulating your father in so many ways. I have seen you develop from elementary school, middle school and high school, becoming your own person and finding your own way. While we shared in the joys and sorrows and the ups and downs of life (especially during those typical teenage years), it has been a journey that I would not trade for anything in this world. When your dad and I joined one another, I became part of a family - consisting of your Dad, your brother (Keith), and you - already in place. Called Ms. Robin, as stepmom, I promised to love and nurture both you and Keith, seeking not to replace your mother, but to be a positive role model in your lives. I celebrated your successes and my heart ached when you were in pain or hurt. To the world you were just another young man, to me you were so much more exploring the universe, so full of life, hope, and abundant adventure. How could we know, how would we know just how fragile your life was? I pray that the promise made so many years ago was realized and that you always felt my deep, never ending love for you. I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU DEARLY! YOU ARE MY HEART!
They say there is a reason,
They say time will heal.
But neither time nor reason,
Will change the way I feel.
For no one knows the heartache
That lies behind our smiles.
No one knows the number of times;
We have broken down and cried.
We want to tell you something
So there will be no doubt
You're so wonderful to think about
But so hard to live without.

I wanted to contact you, but was unsure what to say other than the usual "thoughts and prayers" which although nice seemed inadequate. Then I read your email and watched the video and shared some tears. It is so sad to lose a life so full of youth and energy, so talented and charitable. It is so wrong for such a tragedy to happen to people as good and kind as you and Vince. As a parent and grandparent I can imagine how difficult this is for you two. One thing is certain, Christopher was truly blessed to have shared his life with you and Vince.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. No one can prepare you for the loss of a child; it comes like a swift wind. But, take comfort in knowing that you have gained a heavenly angle to watch over you and that Chris is now resting in the arms of our Lord. May the Lord grant you peace in this difficult time.

Hey Chris, I never knew how much time we spent together until today. We were together almost every day growing up and our bond was so strong that it never had to be discussed! I had your back and you had mine. This will never be reality for me because I know you are still with me. I always appreciated your "I can do anything" attitude and it has lived with me forever. I love you bro, and you were always a brother to me no matter what. We have never stopped talking to each other because we were mad at each other. Your love was unconditional and I love you for that.
