DOTY --Cynthia Louise. Three Parks Independent Democrats mourns the loss of our longtime District Leader and beloved friend, Cynthia L. Doty, who died after a brief illness on July 17. A tireless, gracious, and wise political and community organizer, and the Deputy Clerk of the Manhattan Board of Elections, she will be sorely missed by her friends and colleagues. With heartfelt condolences to the family, a memorial will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church on Sunday, October 1 at 4pm.

I am still in disbelief of Cynthia Doty's untimely passing. I first met her in 2004, when I joined and began volunteering with "Three Parks Independent Democrats", and I later campaigned for her run for NYC Council, petitioned every year with her and participated in numerous political activities with her over the past 20 years, including Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. I have special memories of attending the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia with Cynthia on the day that Hillary Clinton was nominated to be the Democratic candidate for President. Cynthia was a very dedicated, knowledgeable, hardworking and tireless advocate for deserving candidates and causes, and I feel honored to have worked with her and to have learned a lot from her. NYC is a better place because of her, and she will be sadly missed by all of us.

Cynthia chaired the block association in my neighborhood. She served us in ways that went way beyond political affiliation or demographics. Whether it was an icy sidewalk, unattended dumpster, missing package, or yawning sinkhole, she presented solutions with unwavering civility. She took on the big problems, too--worker protections, affordable housing, crime prevention, climate change--with a similar discernment and resolve. I recognize that some of her efforts were not successful, but through it all, she showed us how to improve conditions for everyone. We will miss Cynthia, but we will definitely remember the ideals she stood for and try to embody them.

Cynthia and Lynn Max were two of the first people at 3 parks that I met. They got me busy right away at a storefront for Obama. Although I had seen her once before when a building scaffold collapsed on broadway if memory serves and she was there helping or whatever. I'm not sure how many neighborhood groups she belonged to or founded, but she was everywhere. She was quick, very quick, to reply to emails. She was also patient. And she was a worker among workers.

I still can't believe she is gone. I've known Cynthia for nearly 40 years, since I moved into the building across the street and joined our 102/103rd Block Association, which she was president of. Over the years, we have been involved in Democratic County politics, Three Parks Democrats (of which she was way more active than me) and served as election-day workers. When I needed health insurance before I was eligible for medicare, she got me a job at the Manhattan Board of Elections where I worked through the pandemic. Just this past year, she recommended me for the New York County Democratic Committee and I was elected in November 2022.

She has always been a true friend, and a true champion of progressive causes. Her passing was so sudden that I never really got a chance to thank her for everything she has done for me. I will really miss her.

Cynthia and I were neighbors and friends for 46 years but I write here of just one moment in her life.
When she was running for the State Assembly, I helped on her campaign as much as I was able. Her grassroots connection to those she wished to serve was exceptional. While other candidates had a stump speech they gave wherever they went, Cynthia never gave the same speech twice. Instead she spoke directly to the specific concerns of those she was addressing. She was able to because she knew them; she knew their issues. She dug deep into the soil of community because she cared deeply. With her intelligence and resolve, she planted the seeds that grow into improving the lives of people. Her legacy will continue to grow.

Cynthia and I were District Leaders together for 10 years then coworkers at the BOE. She always impressed me with her sense of honor, fairness, and public service. She was also
A dear friend who liked a good laugh. She left us too soon and is very much missed. My deepest condolences to her family. She was special.

Cynthia Doty and I were political friends. Cynthia actually ensured that I was on the ballot for reelection to the District Leader position in the 74th Assembly District this year. I spoke to Ms. Doty to thank her but her health deteriotated so fast that I could not send a gift. So instead I am making a contribution to an organization of her choice. My sincere condolences to her family and friends . I don't know how another single person can replace Dear Cynthia Doty
May you rest in everlasting peace.
