D. DANIEL Obituary

DANIEL--D. Ronald. D. Ronald Daniel, age 93, died at his home in New York City on December 16, 2023. Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1930, Ron graduated from Wesleyan University with a BA and received his MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He held an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Harvard University, an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Wesleyan, and an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Ron was Chairman Emeritus of Wesleyan's Board of Trustees and was a Trustee Emeritus of Brandeis University. Ron joined McKinsey & Company from the United States Navy after having managed one of the country's earliest, large-scale computer installations at the Navy's Aviation Supply Office. During his 60 years at the Firm, Ron directed a wide range of assignments emphasizing issues of strategy and corporate development and on matters of senior management organization. He was the Firm's Global Managing Partner for 12 years stepping aside in 1988. He then became Managing Director Emeritus. Ron will be forever revered for his values, his collaborative spirit and his mentoring to the women and men of the Firm. For 15 years Ron served as Treasurer of Harvard University and as a member of the University's then seven- person Corporation. He was a member of the Board of Overseers, Chairman of the Harvard Management Company and Chairman of the Board of Fellows of Harvard Medical School. He stepped aside from those positions in June 2004. Ron was a member of the Boards of Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Library of America, the New York City Ballet, the Markel Foundation and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He chaired the Investment Committee of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation and served on the Investment Committees of The National Gallery of London and The Rockefeller University. Ron was a Trustee Emeritus of Rockefeller University and a Life Trustee of WNET (New York's public television station). He was a member of the Executive Committee of The Brookings Institution, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. From 1988 to 1994 he was a Vice President of the United States Golf Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the USGA. He also served as Chair of the Finance Committee. Ron was a member of Augusta National Golf Club, The Blind Brook Club and The Links Club. He was a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. He is survived by his wife Lise Scott, his sons David (Jeanne), Peter (Jean Stratton), Stephen (Mary Beth), and his stepson David Scott (Chandra), ten grandchildren and three great-grand- children.
