DANIEL KRUGER Obituary

KRUGER--Daniel F. , devoted husband to Lynn and doting father of Mark, Pam, and Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024 in Woodland Hills, California. Daniel was an American success story. He grew up in a third floor, walk-up apartment in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and was the first in his family to attend college. A graduate of City College, he earned a law degree from Brooklyn Law, got a CPA, and eventually became a top partner at KPMG. He led the early expansion of the Washington National Tax Practice, then led the New York Tax Office while also serving on the Board of Directors and playing a major role in engineering the firm's growth. Daniel was a role model and mentor inside and outside the office, known for his sharp mind, big heart, and integrity. He once convinced the IRS not to refund him $1,800 and explained how their calculations were in error. Most important of all, Daniel was a devoted family man. He met his wife Lynn when they were teens and they shared a life of adventure, joy, love, and much laughter. Daniel had a keen sense of humor and a gift for one-liners -colleagues and friends often compared him to Bob Newhart, another witty CPA, and his wife and kids were his best audience. When he retired in 1990, he became an avid tennis player, golfer, and bridge player and traveled the world with his wife, children, grandchildren, and a wide network of friends. He is survived by Lynn, his three children and their spouses Mel Lewis, David Rosenzweig, and Craig Shapiro, and his grandchildren, Emily, Annie, and Madeline. He will be missed. A memorial service was held on May 22 in Mt. Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Donations in Daniel's honor can be made to the Anti-Defamation League.

Mary and I are deeply saddened to learn of Dan´s passing. He was a valued mentor to me both in Washington and NYC, a consummate professional, and an even better human being. One of the true legends in establishing the foundation upon which the firm´s tax practice was built.
We were also fortunate to get to know Dan and Lynn outside of the office and have nothing but wonderful memories of the time spent with you. A fantastic couple! Lynn and family please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Please accept our condolences for your loss.
Bob Decelles and Mary DuPont, retired KPMG partners.
