DAVID SOLOMON Obituary

SOLOMON--Dr. David Y.,

age 92, passed away peacefully at his Manhattan home on Monday, December 14, 2015. Dr. Solomon was born in Kuwait and grew up in Iraq then fled religious persecution, escaping to Iran before emigrating to the United States in 1961 with the help of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. He practiced medicine for 67 years because of a true devotion to people. He took a personal interest in every single patient regardless of their stature. He never turned anyone away and they came from all around the world to see him, some even calling him "Papa." He was the patriarch of his family; a loving husband, father and grandfather and a devoted son, brother and uncle. He touched everyone with his infectious celebration of life, his generosity and his unflagging determination to help others. He was also an amazingly creative cook. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Yris, his sister Rosemond, sons Darius and Teimour, daughters-in-law Enez and Grace and his grandson Ethan. He will be dearly missed. Family will receive Wednesday from 6pm-9pm with a funeral service held on Thursday at 11am, both to be held at Frank E Campbell, "The Funeral Chapel," 81st Street and Madison Ave. Interment to follow will take place at Cedar Park Cemetery, Emerson, NJ.

Words can't express what kind of person Dr. Solomon was. He was a doctor yes, but more important, he was an amazing human being. We can all learn a lesson from his strength, devotion to people, and his sense of humor.

With a very heavy heart, we convey our deepest and sincerest condolences to Yris and Dr. Davids entire family. We all lost a very dear person to us, and his absence is going to be felt by us all. He was a very generous and giving gentleman in every sense of the word. His class and elegance was unparalleled. We will miss him very much.
He is now with dad and Gorgie, and as Yris always called them....."the three musketeers" are back together again.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family be comforted through heaven together with all the morners of Zion.

My deepest felt sorrows yet blessings for David and the family David, for the very special person he was and the joy David gave to the world and his family, as David will always be remembered. David and Yris were dear friends of my parents, Sidney and Gloria who rest in peace, dating back to when my father and David first met through the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. It has been my blessing to know and spend time with David and the family. Yris, Darius, Teimour and the rest of the family, my heartfelt sympathies and love.
