DAVID STEIN Obituary

STEIN--David F., 71, passed away peacefully at home on September 5. David was the devoted husband of Ellen Cohen for 38 years and the loving father of their children Jeremy (Robin), Katharine (Michael) and Nicholas (Kathryn) and grandchildren T.J., Ella, Michael and Lucy. David was the son of Nobel Laureate William H. Stein and Phoebe L. Hockstader and brother of William H. and Robert J. Stein. David graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Business School. He had a 40 year career as an investment banker in New York City where he was a Partner at Kuhn Loeb and a Managing Director at Lehman Brothers. Prior to his retirement David was the Vice Chairman of J & W Seligman and Company. Throughout his life David devoted himself to many causes, serving on the boards of Montefiore Hospital, The Children's Aid Society, Blythdale Children's Hospital and the Riverdale Country School. He was also a Director of Griffin Land & Nurseries, Inc. David will be remembered by his family and his many friends and associates as a loving, kind man of intelligence and integrity. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Phoebe Stein Child Life Center at Montefiore Hospital or The Children's Aid Society in New York City. Visitation 5-8pm, September 6 and 7 at Campbell's Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Avenue at 81st Street and 5-8pm, September 8 at the Stein residence. Details concerning a memorial service later in the week to follow.
