I was told he was a great and intelligent man, always a man of the time, whenever that may have been.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Ed Kirby. I had a great experience
working with Ed on our film "Visions of Iron" he was an amazing historian and an even better person.

Great teacher, coach, mentor and a dedicated person. I happened to be on the Scoville Library site last week and ran across a living history Mr. Kirby did there. What a great geology lesson in typical Kirby fashion! Rest In Peace your legacy goes on.

When I came to Housatonic high school I wasn’t readily excepted into the group. I was chased around the bit and bullied. Mr. Kirby noticed that and asked me if I’d like to come in his office and sit down until the bell rang and then go to class. I appreciated this and he became a bit of a mentor to me. Rest in peace old friend. Lloyd.

My deepest condolences to Mary and Ed’s large and wonderful family. Before I ever had the pleasure of knowing Ed, I was inspired by his knowledge and passion for geology and history as I cited his work on the iron industry and geology of our region. Later on when I settled back in our NW corner of CT, I was delighted to finally meet the man who had so inspired me to learn all I could about the iron history and to achieve both undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology and the management of our natural resources. Thank you for sharing Ed with us all and for the amazingly full and productive life that he lived in teaching students, athletes, and helping to protect all that which we hold dear in Northwest CT and across this great American landscape. Rest well Mr. Kirby.
