EDWARD ROBERTS Obituary

ROBERTS--Edward.

Ted Roberts died on February 10 in hospice care at Brookdale Battery Park in New York City. He was born in Paterson, NJ on May 21, 1933, son of Dorothy Munier Roberts and Edward Roberts. In his final four days he was visited by his brother Donald M. Roberts, his only sibling, and his nieces Sarah M. Roberts and Martha G. Roberts and his nephew John A. Roberts. He was predeceased by his parents and a nephew, also named Edward Roberts. Ted grew up in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and attended Princeton University from which he graduated, summa cum laude, with a degree in Art History. He also graduated from Harvard Law School after five years of service in the United States Navy as an officer and carrier aircraft pilot. For most of his business career he was a partner of the New York law firm Kelley, Drye & Warren where he specialized in corporate trust matters. Ted considered himself fortunate to have been able to live most of his life in his own manner and upon his own terms. His death, too, was in his own manner and upon his own terms. In keeping with his wishes internment in the Roberts family plot in Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood, NJ will be private. A Spring reception in his honor is being planned. In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to Princeton University, Class of 1960.

I never got to say goodbye or even stayed in touch after ted showed me such warm hospitality on a stay in New York when I was much younger. I found an old letter Ted wrote to me about my coming visit to ensure I had all I needed as he would be away. I just now looked him up to see how he was doing and have found this sad news of his passing. To his family I know it has been a year or so since he left you, but I wanted to say that he reached people all over the world, I from Australia have fond memories of Ted and his kindness and I don't think I ever truly paid him back for the use of his Apartment. My Condolences are with you and TED, thank you form the bottom of my heart for all you did for me, you will never know how much it was appreciated.

Ted and I became good friends during our years together as associates at Kelley Drye & Warren. We became partners on the same day (January 1, 1972). After that, we grew even closer as we worked together on numerous projects for clients and in firm administration, and I came to admire his many fine qualities even more. I will miss him.

A good and brilliant man who had a great sense of humor which he shared with Messrs. Zimand, Barry, Krohley, and me over many a lunch. God bless. Gene D'Ablemont. Kelley Drye & Warren and Teaneck, New Jersey, just down the road from Ridgewood.
