EUGENE ALBERT Obituary

ALBERT--Eugene, long-time resident of Croton-on-Hudson, died on June 25 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Gene was born on June 28, 1924 in the Bronx and graduated from Croton Harmon High School in 1942. During WWII he served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps and after the war received a BS in Sociology from Columbia University. He spent his early career in insurance and real estate sales and later started his own appraisal business, the Albert Appraisal Company. Throughout a career of more than 50 years Gene set the standard for excellence in real estate appraising. At the age of 63 he received a law degree from Pace University and thence began his second successful career. Gene is survived by his wife Ingrid, his three children Anthony, Joe, and Jeannie, his brother Richard, his first wife Vera, and three grandchildren. We love and miss you. A private memorial service is being arranged by the family. Please consider making a contribution in the name of Eugene Albert to the American Parkinson Disease Association, www.apdaparkinson.org.

Besides my parents and wife, Gene has had the most impact on my life. He was more than a boss, mentor and a business partner - he was a friend. He had the confidence to allow me to mature professionally. He never gave me wrong even when I was. I did not deserve the kindness and generosity that he showered on me over the years. I owe much in my life to him. His brilliance can never be replaced.

Gene was a father-in-law, a mentor and a friend to me. He was also a father to my wife Vivian, and a grandfather to my children Brendan, David and Garrett, whom they all referred to him as "Grandpa Gene". I admired Gene a great deal, not only for his incredible intelligence and business success and acumen, but also for his unwavering respectfulness, modesty and decency. The world lost a great man...but his memory will live with us forever.

I am the retired Director of Real Estate for Con Edison. I worked with Gene on a client/consultant basis for over 30 years. He was a remarkably intelligent man with an impecable work ethic. He was quite witty and personable. The industry lost a good person in Gene. Rest in peace my long time friend. I hereby extend my heartfelt condolences to Gene's family. Robert J. Mele
