Besides my parents and wife, Gene has had the most impact on my life. He was more than a boss, mentor and a business partner - he was a friend. He had the confidence to allow me to mature professionally. He never gave me wrong even when I was. I did not deserve the kindness and generosity that he showered on me over the years. I owe much in my life to him. His brilliance can never be replaced.

Gene was a father-in-law, a mentor and a friend to me. He was also a father to my wife Vivian, and a grandfather to my children Brendan, David and Garrett, whom they all referred to him as "Grandpa Gene". I admired Gene a great deal, not only for his incredible intelligence and business success and acumen, but also for his unwavering respectfulness, modesty and decency. The world lost a great man...but his memory will live with us forever.

I am the retired Director of Real Estate for Con Edison. I worked with Gene on a client/consultant basis for over 30 years. He was a remarkably intelligent man with an impecable work ethic. He was quite witty and personable. The industry lost a good person in Gene. Rest in peace my long time friend. I hereby extend my heartfelt condolences to Gene's family. Robert J. Mele
