EVERETT FLEISIG Obituary

FLEISIG--Everett Ward, (90), of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on April 24, 2023. Born, July 30, 1932, Everett graduated from Brooklyn College and New York University School of Law and was a Korean War veteran. He was an icon in International Transportation from the 1960s until his retirement in 2000, when he became a mentor for those that followed him until his passing. In 1969, he was co-founder of New York City based Robbins Fleisig Forwarding, and in 1979, created one of the first full container NVOCC's, Ocean World Lines (OWL). He was a legend in the industry, known for his ability to navigate difficult trade lanes in order to transport much needed clothing to Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other destinations worldwide. Everett married Sheila Bader (deceased June 4, 2008) in 1954, and during their 54 years of marriage traveled the globe with friends and family, never missing an opportunity to play a round of golf or a set of tennis. Everett was always looking forward, and had an early dream of opening a winery on Long Island. By the early 1980s, he had 40 acres of grapes growing on the east end of Long Island. He is survived by his sister, Isobel Fleisig, his daughters Karen Baer and Cheryl Wallach, his son, Matthew Fleisig, their spouses, Alan Baer, Stewart Wallach and Nina Fleisig, as well as eight grandchildren, Molly Fleisig (married to Jeremy Gundel), David Baer (married to Haley Rottenberg), Rachel Wallach, Jacob Fleisig, Sara Wallach, Zachary Baer (married to Sarah Baer), Jessica Baer and Lukas Fleisig, as well as numerous cousins and friends worldwide. Everett loved sharing with his family and friends, sending gift baskets on almost every Hallmark Holiday. We will all miss his stories, his humor, his wisdom and his friendship. Services will be held Sunday morning, April 30, 11:30 at New Montefiore Cemetery, 1180 Wellwood Ave., West Babylon, NY 11704.

Dear Matthew, I found about Everett's passing two days ago (in a fortuitous manner) and wanted to extend my condolences. (A friend of mine was recently at a funeral for his aunt at New Montefiore Cemetary and happened to notice there was a burial service for a Fleisig and so he contacted me. I googled Everett and found this obituary.) I don't have in front of me the detailed family tree you gave me (Thank You!) but I think Everett and my father Nathan were possibly first cousins.....if Everett's dad and my grandfather Abraham Fleisig were brothers. But I may be off by a generation.

In any case, we are very sorry for the passing of your Dad. From the obituary it is very clear that he was an extremely accomplished leader and innovator in international transportation along with being a veteran, lawyer, father and grandfather. Quite a successful and full life. I'm sorry I never got to meet him.

We hope your fond memories of him (I'm sure there are many) will comfort you and your extended family in this difficult time.

With our sincerest condolences,
Stew and Helene Fleisig
