I knew Fred to be kind and an intensely smart man. He introduced me to the higher levels of cloisonné and was patient with my learning. I just found out of his passing and express my deepest feelings to his friends and family.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Frederic. He and I had corresponded by email about Nippon and the cloisonné technique and I found him so helpful with how these two subjects intersected. I purchased his book which I have shared with others - such a depth of knowledge is contained within. His passing leaves a cavernous hole in this field. Thank goodness he had the wisdom to include much by writing it down to share with us for all time - though it doesn't ease the sadness of losing such a brilliant and curious mind.

I was one of those 'life long friends.' Fred and I sat together on the Hampton Jitney 30 years ago. We kept in touch (at Christmas) ever since.
One year, Fred biked over to Alice Tully Hall to hear my son in a percussion ensemble.
I bought his book on Japanese Cloisonné.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Fred. He was a wonderful, kind, compassionate man that I met through our love of Japanese cloisonne. We had corresponded for years and he was so kind to share his vast knowledge. My condolences to his other friends and family. This is heart breaking!

So sad to hear of Freds passing.
I have been corresponding with Fred for a few years sharing a love and interest in Japanese cloisonne.
Earlier this year Fred Skyped me here in the UK and with an assistant showed me around his personal collection which is now a wonderful memory to treasure.
The knowledge he was delighted to share was a joy and he was always interested in new information I had discovered. Alas my last recent emails will remain unanswered.
His book will remain a great source of information for me.
Rest in peace Fred.
