GEORGE SHIVELY Obituary
56, of Bronxville, died of appendix cancer on March 29, 2018. Beloved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Jenny, and three sons, Ben, Zach, and Joe, as well as his mother, Cynthia and three sisters. Born December 18, 1961 in Bronxville, NY, graduated Bronxville High School, Middlebury College, and NYU School of Law. He had a long and successful legal career, culminating with the position of Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel & Chief Investment Counsel of New York Life Insurance Company, where he worked since 2006. Services will be held Friday, April 6th, 11am, at the Reformed Church of Bronxville. Dear Shively family .. my memories of George are from 1967 to 1970 when we were friends and I used to go down my hill to Vine Street and his mother would let me in to see George. George was the nicest friend anyone could have.. thoughtful and honest and kind. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Shively Family: I was so sorry to hear about George this week (from some of my former Prudential colleagues). We worked together many years ago at this point, but I was always impressed with his professionalism, hard work, and sheer decency -- he was a great and fun colleague (and as I remember a terror on the basketball court at the Prudential Legal and Compliance picnics!). More importantly, he was a wonderful human being. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I only came to learn of George's passing today. I live in Northern California and went to Middlebury with George. I have only fond memories of George. George was an enormously talented attorney and a great leader that cared very much about his team. I looked forward to our weekly meetings, especially hearing about the quality time he spent with his family. George spoke of you often and it was easy to see he treasured you all.

To the Shively family. Our heartfelt condolences go out to you all during this incredibly difficult time. It was truly a privilege to know George (primarily as a colleague during our Prudential days). He was a great lawyer and so much more (e.g., he had a great sense of humor, was a trivia buff and was a "lion heart" competitor).
