Helen Reader Obituary

READER--Helen Charlotte Brown. After an eight year battle with Alzheimer's, Helen Charlotte Brown Reader, 89, died Tuesday afternoon May 20, at her home in Rye Brook, NY. She was born July 18, 1918 in Dover, New Hampshire and had lived in Rye, NY, for over 80 years. She received her B.A. from Cornell University and her M.A. from Columbia University. She taught world history and African studies in Port Chester Junior High School from 1965 to 1977. She was married for sixty-three years to Dr. George Gordon Reader, the former Livingston Farrand Prof. and Chairperson of the Department of Public Health at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He died in October of 2005. She is survived by her four sons, Jonathan W. Reader, Florham Park, NJ, David P. Reader, Port Chester, NY, Mark M. Reader, Haddonfield, NJ and Peter M.F. Reader, Maplewood, NJ and five grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of the Rye Presbyterian Church and the American Yacht Club. She was a member of the Rye Historical Society, the League of Women Voters, the Women's Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. A memorial service will be held at the Rye Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to The Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY 10580 or the Helen Charlotte Brown Scholarship in Women Studies, The Development Office, Drew University, 36 Madison Ave., Madison, NJ 07940.

My Mother and she grew-up together and graduated out of the same class at Rye High School (Class of 36' I believe), one of her sons-David and I were once friends and shared some good times with each other(Long time ago)!
