HENRY BLUMENTHAL

BLUMENTHAL--Henry L. on April 11, 2021, Henry L. Blumenthal died at home on Riverside Drive. Born in 1936 to Jeanne and Alexander Blumenthal, he grew up in Brooklyn and Riverdale. The Dodgers broke his heart when they left Brooklyn; he adopted the Mets but never stopped rooting for Jackie and Pee Wee. Graduated NYU (Rex of Pi Lambda Phi) and New York Law School. Commissioned into the Navy, he was serving as the legal officer on the USS Forrestal when he met Jane Kloecker in Italy. They later eloped to Copenhagen. He volunteered for the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights in Jackson, MS in the 60's, worked for Legal Aid, and practiced with his father and brother. Excelling at many areas of law, he won a noted free speech case against the Girl Scouts (304 F. Supp. 1228). He loved his family, his pets, classic cars, fountain pens, history, the ocean, and the Little League teams he coached for over 10 years. His grandsons bear his name: Joseph Henry and Henry Power. He is survived by Jane, brother Andrew (Ardith), son Alexander (Amy), grandsons, and Ashland the cat. His family, friends, city, and country are all better for his life.
