IRENE WANDERER Obituary

WANDERER--Irene (Rosenzweig) September 27, 1947 - August 25, 2021. Irene (Rosenzweig) Wanderer, born in Germany to Holocaust survivors, immigrated to the United States with her parents shortly after her birth. Growing up in Freehold, NJ, she graduated from Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, NJ. She began her college education at Syracuse University and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at New York University. During a summer trip to Israel, Irene visited her parents' friends and met their son, Samuel Wanderer, who had just completed his service in the Israeli army. Sam and Irene were married in 1971. A few years later they welcomed their first son, Jason, and two years later the family was complete with the arrival of their second son, Spencer. The family then settled in East Brunswick, NJ. Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother whose three grandchildren, Ryan, Zac, and Jordan, were the light of her life. In recent years, Irene and Sam spent their time together, surrounded by friends, between their residences in Manhattan and Delray Beach, FL. She is a past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged. Irene is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Ruth Rosenzweig, and survived by her husband Samuel, son Jason of Los Angeles, CA; and son Spencer, daughter-in-law Casey, and three grandsons, Ryan, Zac and Jordan, of Short Hills, NJ. In her wishes, Irene kindly requested any contributions in her memory be directed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
