JAMES HOUGHTON Obituary
The residents of Manhattan Plaza join the thousands who mourn the passing of James Houghton, our beloved friend and neighbor. Our thoughts and prayers are with his devoted wife, Joyce, and his children, Lily and Henry. Jim had two homes: the Signature Theatre, which blossomed under his artistic leadership; and Manhattan Plaza where, as longtime residents since 1995, he and Joyce raised their family. Singularly talented, Jim reflected the best of our community. He was loving, caring, dynamic, and shared his immense creative gifts with the world at large and with us in particular. Like Manhattan Plaza, the Signature Theatre celebrated the city's vibrant multi-cultural life and reached out to acknowledge those artists who had been unfairly neglected. We rejoiced when the theater he so loved and brilliantly nurtured opened across from us on 42nd Street. Jim's enduring legacy resides not only in his signature and monumental achievement but also in the lives of the thousands he touched with his intelligence, grace and impeccable taste. Jim generously helped us get tickets for 4 plays in NYC in 2015 and he didn't even know us! One of the plays was at the Signature theater which turned out to be our favorite venue. What a terrific spot for his memory and work to live on.

Dear Sue and Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your brother Jimmy. I remember him as just a little tyke at Our Lady of Mercy running around the playground. My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to your parents, Jim's wife and children and the whole Houghton clan. May you find comfort that Jim is no longer suffering and he is in the loving arms of his God. Sincere sympathies being sent your way.
