Dr Janet Cuttner is missed by our family every day since her passing in 2016. I have many personal memories of her from 1995 through 2003 when she was treating my mother for mantle cell lymphoma, these would take pages to fill up. Her dedication is an understatement. There are many stories about Dr Cuttner and all she did for my mother - but the one that comes to mind was when we invited her to my mother's 65th surprise birthday dinner in a midtown restaurant with about 40 or 50 friends and family. We had RSVPs from everyone but had not heard from Dr Cuttner. A few nights before the dinner, Dr Cuttner called me and she told me that she had the invitation but as I knew, in her field she does not go to 'family events' of patients as she has to maintain a professional distance, I didn't realize that there was a comma to that sentence when I said that I understood perfectly but wanted to convey our feelings about her, and Dr Cuttner then continued, but in this case I'm going to come but will not stay for the entire dinner. We had her seated next to my mother who we told that a surprise guest would be coming for a short while, Dr Cuttner came as the appetizers were being served and stayed the whole night - it made the night for my mother and for all of us - she later told me she had a wonderful time. At the memorial for Dr Cuttner, there was a slide show of photographs as people had arrived and were being seated, one of the photographs was of Dr Cuttner and my mother at this party, thank you to the Cuttner family for including it. My mother's mantle cell lymphoma had an average lifespan at that time of under 30 months. She survived 97 months, 96 months with full vibrancy and only falling off the life path in the 97th month when her lymphoma overtook all efforts and treatments. Thank you, Dr Cuttner - you are always remembered and never forgotten.

I was fortunate enough to work under the tutelage of Dr. Cuttner at Mount Sinai after she oversaw my brother´s care of Hodgkin´s lymphoma. To this day I feel very privileged to have been in that position and witness her skills and dedication. It was not uncommon for me to ask myself what would Dr Cuttner do when I came across a difficult case in my practice. She molded many young students into disciplined successful physicians.
I admired her. She was very caring.
Her contribution to her field has meant more life for thousands of patients in the past present and future. Once I saw in real time a print out of all her publications in the department printer and it was
overflowing and moving across the floor like lava. I was amazed everyday by the woman and her accomplishments. I stood in the presence of greatness and loved every minute. Rest In Peace and Thank You for giving selflessly to your patients, your field and your students.

Dr. Janet Cuttner was my doctor at Mount Sinai, NYC. She was smart, strong, tough and yet I witnessed moments of tenderness. I am alive on the planet today because of Dr. Cuttner. It's hard to believe that she has been gone for six years because if I am still, I can hear her voice and see her in her white jacket working fiercely for me to get better and stay healthy. Thank you for being my doctor. I will continue to cherish and treasure your memory for all of my days.

Remarkable ,kind, intellectual, caring friend , physician, teacher researcher and thoroughly real human being from a family of remarkable women : mother and 3 sisters. Her father was deceased before I met Janet, She more than soldiered on in life but changed it with grace and strength for colleagues, patients, her sisters and her nieces and nephews As Carl June said about his cellular therapy in 2000, It is hard to believe one can cure cancer. Starting in the mid-sixties decades before cell therapy she cured patients with leukemia. The world of the sick is eternally grateful for her professional gifts and accomplishments of advancement. i will miss her.

Doctor Cuttner Rest In Peace. I will always remember you as my second mother who saved my life from Acute Leukemia at Mt. Sinai Hospital in 1974-1994. I used to love visiting the clinics at the hospital to see you and staff. I new I was in good hands. I will always thank you for that. I'm just sorry I couldn't tell you sooner that God Blessed me with a little boy who is now six. It just saddens me to know my doctor is now in Heaven too. You were a great doctor to me, and a good friend to my family. Please look for my father up in Heaven, he will be so delighted to see you. I will miss you.

I'm sure you will see much more of this, but Dr. Cuttner undoubtedly saved my life. I first saw Dr. Cuttner in December of 1985 after being diagnosed with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura while I was very young. It was only my luck that the initial hospital I had gone to in New Jersey had a hematologist there that had personal knowledge of her expertise in my blood disorder. She followed me as a patient for many years after, until years after I moved to Florida. I even drove from Florida to see her. I don't just respect and admire her.... I love her, and wouldn't be here if it were not for her. What a loss to so many.

Many years ago, when training at Mt. Sinai, I rotated on Dr. Cuttner's service. It goes without saying that I was awestruck by her knowledge and entirely intimidated by her presence. She expected nothing less than perfection from the residents.
However, while shaking in my boots, I learned the lesson of a lifetime. A truly dedicated physician will go the distance for each and every patient. Dr. Cuttner was intensely committed to rendering the best care. She was an exemplar and advocate. She may not have been P.C. but SHE SAVED SO MANY LIVES. No nonsense, did not want compliments, just wanted to move along to the next patient and do it all over again. No fanfare, just results.

Dr Cuttner was my teaching attending during my fellowship at Mt Sinai. There were no words to describe what it felt like to have her nod of approval when I made a decision that pleased her. It meant the world to me.
I met her when she evaluated a loved one for a blood malignancy. I was so impressed that I made the decision do my fellowship at Sinai. I remember everything she ever said to me. It was a life altering educational experience. How lucky I was to witness this dynamic woman that was ahead of her time and a master in her profession.
No one can fill her shoes in my mind. She was a gift to all who came to know her. We have lost a truly great physician and I along with thousands of other will never forget her. Thank You Dr Cuttner for setting the bar so high that all your former students will always strive for excellence and ask themselves with each challenging patient case, what would Dr Cuttner do? To know that answer is to be blessed...as I have been. Rest in Peace.

My husband and I wish to express our sadness at the news of her death. i was a very longterm patient of this often crusty but so warm woman who greeted us over the years with a welcoming smile. She knew of my husband Steve and his work for human rights and alway expressed the wish to chat with him.
Thanks to her i have been cancer free for several years. When she had to give up her private practice office I continued to see her in followup including this past June. I will so miss seeing her. She was a very special woman and physician.
