JEROME CHAZEN Obituary

CHAZEN--Jerome A. 1927-2022. The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation mourns the recent passing (February 6, 2022) of our dear friend and colleague, Jerry. He was a man of integrity, a "family man," an art collector, lover of music (a true jazz fan), a respected business executive, philanthropist, (also giving generously of his time), and he was a valued leader in all aspects of his life. As a co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Liz Claiborne, he was the driving force behind the company's success. His many business achievements enabled him and his beloved wife and partner, Simona, to support multiple charities. These included his alma maters, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Columbia Business School; cultural institutions like the Museum of Arts and Design (formerly the American Craft Museum) where he once served as Chairman of the Board. A devotee of jazz and especially, the great Louis Armstrong, Jerry was the most recent board chair of the Louis Armstrong House Museum and Archives and was a dedicated, active board member of the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation as well. All of us at the LAEF will miss Jerry, and his wise counsel. We extend our deepest condolences to Simona, their children David Chazen, Kathy Chazen (husband Larry Miller) and Louise Chazen Banon (husband Sidney); their grandchildren and great-grandchild. How wonderfully Jerry lived his 94 years! He leaves his family well prepared to continue his legacy. Rest in peace dear friend. The officers and board members of the LAEF
