My sincere condolences.
I'd known Jim from doing a number of sessions as a sideman over the years at Nola. There was always lovely vibe and that was one of the reasons I decided to record my first solo CD there in 1997 or 1998. His masterful skill and relaxed attitude helped me greatly.
He is one of those people who will be remembered, for his kindness, generosity, and good nature...not to mention his fine work.

When I stepped nervously into Nola Recording Studio a few years back, I was put at ease immediately by Jim. He was a burst of sunshine in this sometimes gloomy world. I will never forget his kindness, humor and talent. Now he's up there mixing for all the greats he worked with and the ones he wished he had worked with. God speed Jim. Lots of love to his family.

Oh, Jimmy, you can't go yet! So much music yet to be shared, so many laughs (on top of the ones we ALREADY had!), so many great meals... Good night, my friend, and sleep well. God knows you've earned it.

What can be said about Jim that hasn't already been said?
We met in the early 80s, when I used to be record at NOLA fairly regularly. Here was a kind, loving, special human being who made you feel at home in his studio. I will miss him dearly.
You could warm your hands on this man...

Jim wasn't the life of the party, he was the party. And he never spoke of his talents, but anyone that worked with him surely did. He would go to any lengths in his power to help you out. He was the sound of Sesame Street for so many wonderful years. If ever anyone embodied the word "mensch" it was Jim. My heart is broken. Sending the deepest of sympathy to his wife and family.

from A Prayer for Musicians.... "Grant us O Lord, nerves of steel that we may dare to sing a new song, and teach others to sing it too. Grant us O Lord, memory as clear as crystal that we may remember the joy and comfort that words and music bring."
We knew Jim just a short while, but we will miss him as if he were a life long friend.

To the Czak Family: I am so sorry for your loss. Jim was such a special friend to me. I saw him everyday when he entered 111 entrance on 57th Street for years...and I would run to the side door and wave or open it to give him a hug...since i was at 109....I recorded a CD upstairs and the Nola gang became part of my Steinway family.....I am so saddened by this news. I send my deepest condolences ....Betsy Hirsch

Jim's musical mentoring and his friendship meant more to me than I can ever say. The recordings, the hangs and the birthday calls somehow validated me as a singer. His life really mattered. Love to Judy and Steve. So sorry I can't be there.
