JOAN JACOBS Obituary

JACOBS--Joan Klein. The officers, board, and staff of the American Technion Society (ATS) are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Klein Jacobs of La Jolla, CA. Together with her beloved husband Irwin, who is an ATS Emeritus Director and honorary lifetime member of the Technion Board of Governors, Joan was a Technion Guardian, a distinction reserved for those who have reached the highest level of commitment to the University. Their numerous gifts to the Technion include the naming gift to the Technion and Cornell University to create the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Graduate School, and the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Center for Communications and Information Technologies (CCIT). In addition to the Technion, the couple's philanthropic giving has benefited academic institutions including the University of California at San Diego, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Cornell University, and cultural, educational, and arts organizations in San Diego. Joan was a true champion for the arts, whose advocacy and generous philanthropic giving to them were recognized through numerous awards including the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy and the Philanthropy in the Arts Award from Americans for the Arts. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Irwin, sons Gary Jacobs, Hal Jacobs, Paul Jacobs, and Jeff Jacobs, and the entire Jacobs family. American Technion Society Mark Gaines, President Steve Berger, Chair of the Board Michael Waxman-Lenz, CEO
