I had him in 11th grade in 1970. Just thought of him. Just found out he's gone... never quite gone though... a force of nature that impacts me always ...

Would like to send condolences to Joe’s son Robert & family. Although we never got to know you Robert, our fathers were fast & lifelong friends who grew up in the village. When my 2 sisters & I were kids, he always visited for Thanksgiving & brought wonderful gifts of music (Beatles & more)& things from world travels. Although no relation, we called him Uncle Joe. We all have gold charm bracelets from Italy that he would give us charms each year. His very own grace & charm always filled the room. We were lucky to meet up on a sister’s trip to NY in March 2019 & have a grand visit with Joe. He shared wonderful memories of days growing up with my dad , many adventures & his joy of his family. His curiosity & love of people, places, reading, travel will stay with us. When my dad Gabe passed in 2017 & my sister Carla gave Joe a call, he already knew in his heart with the sentient connection of our lives. This morning I just had a feeling
& found the news Joe has left the building. RIP , miss you already Joe.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to Joe’s friends and family. He was a kind, and caring person devoted to his late wife Betty and his family and friends.
It was an honor to know him.

He was an amazing teacher and a wonderful person...always easy to talk to. I had him over 50 years ago at Bronx Science and still remember how much I enjoyed his classes. To this day, I remember his explanation of a split infinitive --- "to boldly go"---. Rest in Peace, Mr. Scavone.
