JOHN RICKLEFS Obituary

RICKLEFS--John Edward. John Edward Ricklefs PhD, passed away on May 25th from Parkinson's at the age of 87. Born and raised in Salina, KS, he spent 50 years working in more than 27 seaport communities around the globe. John earned three Masters' degrees in planning and economics from universities in Yugoslavia, France, and New York City's Columbia University where he also obtained his PhD. He authored articles and books on economics and technological change that concerned transportation and the economic development of ports and their regional impact. John spent the majority of his professional life with Frederic R. Harris, Inc. and Moffatt and Nichol, Inc. His passions were in music and art, yet he found time to mentor colleagues and Princeton University PhD graduate students. With retirement he returned to sculpting wood and entered many exhibits. He will be remembered by his stories, as well as his jokes, his art work and the depth to which he cared about other people and the world. John is survived Nancy Greenspan, three stepdaughters Peggy Johansen, Elizabeth Ahle and Randi Greenspan, five grandchildren and spouses and one great-grandson.
